 What is Stenography?

Stenography is a process of writing in shorthand and transcribing the notes on a computer. it is very interesting to learn as you know every skill take time same stenography also take time and need little more practice. Stenography is a combination of shorthand and typing you need to learn typing with shorthand and maintain decent speed almost 35wpm to 40wpm with decent accuracy.

  • Is stenography or shorthand same?

             Writing spoken words into coded. language is called stenography and 

    coded language is shorthand.

     

    How many types of shorthand?

    There are many types of shorthand:

    Ex. 1) Pitman Shorthand 

          2) Gregg Shorthand 

          3) Teeline Shorthand

     

     

     

     How much time does it take to learn Stenography? 

    Almost 5-6 months for basic, and to write on 80-100 wpm speed it might take 12-16 months, to write on 100- 120 wpm it might take almost 18-24 months and also depends on your practice.

     

     

    Is Stenography difficult?

    Well it's a coding language, it might be a little difficult in the beginning but after some practice on a regular basis with full dedication it's very interesting and also depends on your practice. 

     

     

    Which language Shorthand is easy? 

    It totally depends on you. You should have a very good command of a particular language because after writing in shorthand you have to transcribe the notes on the computer.

     

     

    What is the minimum speed of a stenographer?

    You have to write at least 80-100 wpm.

     

     

    Which pencil and notepad are used for shorthand? 

    For writing in shorthand you should use a steno HB pencil and steno notepad .

     

     

    What is the qualification for stenography? 

    You should pass at least 10+2.

     

     

    • What can I do after learning stenography? 

    You can prepare for SSC stenographer exam and also other govt. exams, as well as you can try the private sector and get a very good salary.

     

     

    What is the stenographer's job? 

    A stenographer is trained professional transcriber who can write spoken words into a coded form and transcribe the notes on computer, and do many other offices work.

     

    What is shorthand?

    Shorthand is an art of writing in abbreviated symbolic writing (coding language) to represent words and phrases (spoken words) that increase speed of writing.

     

     

    Is typing speed also important for stenographer?

    Yes, for stenographer you should have good typing speed on computer for transcribe the dictation (shorthand notes). Even in SSC or other govt exams has required typing speed for stenographer (job profile) so, you should also work on your typing speed.

     

    How does shorthand woks?

     In shorthand symbols represent consonants, words and phrases. In shorthand you don't need to write a whole word or phrase, you can easily ignore some vowels and consonants. 

    To use shorthand, you need to be able to write fast with a speaker. And also need to be able to understand and read the symbols easily. Shorthand used for taking notes fast.  


    Shorthand is the fastest way of writing. It is a valuable skill for those who need proper and detailed notes. 



    How to learn shorthand?

    To learn shorthand, you must understand the basics of language. 

     

    You have multiple ways to learn shorthand: 

     

    1.     You can join any stenography institute. 

    2.     You can also join any online stenography course

    3.     Even you can learn shorthand by yourself, firstly complete basics of Pitman shorthand book. You can easily find online study material, you can take help of YouTube, YouTube has very good and very well explain content, and many resources also available to your help to understand better and fast.

    History of Pitman Shorthand:

    Pitman Shorthand is the most popular shorthand. This was invented by Sir Issac Pitman in 1837.

    Pitman Shorthand:

    Pitman shorthand is also called Phonography because it is a phonetic system.  It is an art of representing spoken sound by characters.

    It means whatever be hear of spoken sound we can write by characters in stenography characters are known as consonants. 

    Most of the part of the Pitman shorthand written as they are spoken. 

    In Pitman shorthand consonants are represented by strokes and vowels are represented by dots and dash which differ only thickness.

    Ex. P (light sound) represented by light stroke. 

          B (heavy sound) represented by dark stroke.
