Hello everyone, In this post we will see what are consonants in pitman shorthand.How many consonants in shorthand and types of consonants in shorthand.
You all know what is shorthand and the difference between stenography and shorthand. If you don't know about stenography or shorthand that's fine you can read my previous post(click the link to read intro. of steno. ). Now we can start the pitman shorthand course.

What are Consonants:
Consonants are the result of audible friction or stopping of the breath in some part of the mouth or throat.
Consonants in shorthand :
Consonants (spoken sound) are represented by strokes in shorthand, strokes are like geometrical signs.
Ex. Straight line consonants ( \ )
Curve consonants ( ) )
They all are known as consonants in shorthand. Heavy sound consonants are thicker than the light sound consonants.

In Pitman shorthand there are 24 consonants and 26 strokes. Some consonants are represented by two strokes.
This is a list of all basic consonants (strokes) of Pitman Shorthand (mostly used strokes). We will discuss in detail about all consonants in future posts.
